Bursitis

Foot bursitis is inflammation of the bursa, a small fluid-filled sac that helps reduce friction and pressure between tendons, bones and muscles.

This condition often occurs when the bursa near foot joints, such as those in the heel (retrocalcaneal bursitis) or forefoot, becomes inflamed as a result of excessive pressure, repeated trauma or infection.

Typical symptoms include localized pain, redness and swelling around the affected area. Walking and foot movements can be painful, especially when pressure is exerted on the inflamed bursa.
