Osteoarthritis of the foot and/or ankle
Osteoarthritis of the foot and ankle is a degenerative condition that affects the joints in these regions, causing progressive degradation of cartilage and bone changes. This condition can result from normal age-related wear and tear, as well as from factors such as repeated injury, structural abnormalities of the foot, or overweight. The joints most often affected include those of the toes, midfoot (metatarsophalangeal) and ankle.
Common symptoms of osteoarthritis include pain, stiffness, squeaking or creaking sensations during joint movement, and sometimes swelling and joint deformity.
Treatment aims to relieve pain, improve mobility and slow the progression of the condition.
